FBR Integration for Businesses in Pakistan: What to Know Before You Start
Many businesses now need their invoices connected to FBR. Here is a plain-language guide to what that involves and how software can help.
If you run a shop, a trading business or a factory in Pakistan, sooner or later someone will ask: "Is your invoicing connected to FBR?" The rules and deadlines depend on your type of business, so the first step is always to check what applies to you. This article explains the practical side: what integration means and what to look for in software.
What integration means in simple words
Normally an invoice stays inside your own software and on paper. With FBR integration, the invoice is also sent to the FBR system through PRAL when it is created. The system checks it and returns confirmation, so the invoice carries proof that it was reported. Your software and the tax system talk to each other, and your staff do not enter anything twice.
Check what applies to you first
Requirements differ by sector, size and registration. They also change over time. Before spending money, confirm with FBR directly or with your tax consultant:
- Whether your business must integrate.
- By which date.
- Which type of invoicing it needs to follow.
Do not rely on a vendor's word alone. A good vendor will tell you to check, too.
What good integration looks like
- Real-time validation. The invoice is validated while the customer is still at the counter, not at the end of the month.
- Clear error messages. If an invoice is rejected because an item code or tax detail is missing, your staff should see exactly what to fix.
- Nothing typed twice. Billing, stock and the FBR submission should come from the same entry.
- Offline handling. If the internet drops, the software should not freeze the counter, and it should send the invoices once the connection returns.
- Records you can find. Every invoice should be searchable later with its FBR status.
- Updates. When requirements change, your software provider should update the module, not leave you stuck.
Get your data ready
Integration works best when your data is clean. Prepare these before you start:
- Correct business registration details.
- Item names and codes that are consistent.
- The right tax category for each item.
- A list of customers who need a registered invoice, if applicable.
From our experience
A trading client dealing in MS pipes needed FBR integration, so we developed a complete FBR module for them. Invoices are now validated in real time through FBR/PRAL as they are created, instead of being handled separately after the sale.
Final advice
Start early, confirm the rules that apply to you and choose a provider who explains the process clearly. If you want to understand how this could work in your software, get in touch and tell us about your business. You can also see our FlitBook Pro and FlitERP software.
