How to Choose Billing and Kitchen Order Software for a Restaurant
A restaurant runs on speed and accuracy. Here is what to look for in billing and kitchen order software before you buy.
A restaurant does not get a quiet moment to fix mistakes. A wrong bill, a lost order slip or a table nobody remembered costs you money and customers on the spot. Good restaurant software removes those small failures. Here is how to choose one that actually helps.
Start with how an order really travels
Walk through a normal evening. The customer sits, the waiter takes the order, the kitchen cooks it, the waiter serves it, the cashier prepares the bill and the customer pays. At every hand-over, something can go wrong. A good system makes each hand-over automatic: the order goes straight to the kitchen, the bill is built from the same order, and nothing is written twice.
Features that matter every day
- Table management. You should see at a glance which tables are free, occupied or waiting for the bill, and be able to move or merge a table.
- Kitchen orders. Orders should reach the kitchen as they are taken, with clear notes such as "no onions" or "extra spicy", so the cook is not guessing.
- Fast billing. Discounts, service charge, taxes where they apply, split bills and different payment methods should take seconds, not minutes.
- Menu control. Changing a price or marking an item as finished should be a one-minute job for you, not a support call.
- Daily reports. At closing you should see sales by item, by payment method and by waiter without adding up slips.
Do not ignore the stock side
Many restaurants lose money quietly in the kitchen. If the software can link menu items to ingredients, you can see what you actually use and where wastage happens. Even a simple stock list that warns you before an item runs out is better than guessing.
Think about speed and the busy hour
Ask to see the software during a busy-hour style test: enter a table of ten items, add a note, split the bill and print it. If it feels slow or confusing with a demo menu, it will be worse on a Friday night with real customers waiting.
Questions to ask before you buy
- Does it work if the internet drops for a few minutes?
- Can my cashier learn it in one shift?
- Can I see my sales from my phone when I am away?
- Who do I call if something stops working during service?
- Can the software grow with me if I open a second branch?
A practical way to decide
Run it for a week alongside your old method if you can. Compare the closing totals each night. Software that matches your cash, saves the cashier time and gives you cleaner reports is worth keeping.
From our experience
A restaurant in Faisalabad asked us for billing that works in a single click. Around that we built dine-in table booking, a token system for take-away orders and a delivery system that works with riders, so every kind of order, from the table to the doorstep, goes through one system.
A cafe client had a slightly different need. For ready products such as cold drinks and snacks it wanted light inventory, while items like tea, coffee, sandwiches and rolls are added from a menu cart with one click and no inventory at all. It also needed table booking and a credit (udhaar) ledger. Matching the software to how each place really sells made billing faster for both.
AmfaTech's FlitBite is built for restaurant billing, tables and kitchen orders. If your needs are different, or you run a cafe or juice corner, get in touch and tell us about your place. We will tell you honestly which option fits.
